Navigation Overview

** IMPORTANT: the UNDO function is disabled for navigation manipulation.

Controlling the navigation of your site is critical to its health. TAGGON helps make you life easier in this regard by allowing you to edit your menu directly on the navigation menu itself.

Getting Started

All navigation editing is controlled by the Edit Menu Toolbar which appears when you right-click on a menu item. If you are just starting to use TAGGON you may not have a navigation menu yet, if so clicking on the New Page icon on the toolbar or selecting New Page from the File menu will add a new page to your site.  This new page will automatically be added as a link within the navigation.  For further information on adding new pages see the Create a New Page article of this site.

The Edit Menu Toolbar

Right-clicking on a menu item within your navigation will bring up the Edit Menu Toolbar. This menu allows you to completely customize the navigation of your site.

Create New Page

The Create New Page icon allows you to insert a new page into TAGGON with a link within the navigation menu.  After clicking on this icon the Edit Menu Toolbar will be repopulated with new icon options allowing you to place the menu item before, after, or within a submenu of the currently selected menu item.  After selecting your preferred link placement you will be prompted to enter a name for the new page.  This name will be used to label the link to the page within the navigation, and it will also be used to populate the page's title in a visitor's browser.

Please note that the terms "before" and "after" refer to the "left" and "right" respectively for horizontal navigations and "above" and "below" respectively for vertical navigations.

Edit this Menu Item

Selecting the Edit This Menu Item icon allows you to change the label for the navigation link. When clicked a new dialogue box will appear on the screen labelled Edit The Menu.  Rename it as appropriate and select Submit.  The "live" option allows you to restrict pages from the public while you are developing them.  This prevents the your site from looking to be "Under Construction".

You will be asked to right-click the destination menu, followed by whether you want to place the new menu item before or after the selected menu item or place it as a submenu. On submitting the page will refresh and the navigation menu is updated with a copy of the source menu.

Move Menu Item

Click on the Move Menu Item icon to move the menu item including all of its submenus. You will be asked to right-click the destination menu, followed by whether you want to place the new menu item before or after the selected menu item or place it as a submenu. On Submit, the page will refresh and the navigation menu is updated with the original location of the menu removed and the new location of the menu added.

Delete Menu Item

Click on the Delete Menu Item icon to remove the menu item including all of its submenus from the navigation menu. A list of all items to be affected will be displayed and you are asked to confirm to delete the menu item and all of its sub items. On Submit, the page will refresh and the navigation menu is updated with the menu item removed.

Reroute This Article

The Reroute This Article icon is needed to redirect a link to a different page then it is currently set to.  To use this feature right-click on the menu item you wish to adjust and click on the Reroute This Article icon.  The system will prompt you to right-click on the destination menu.  Right-clicking will allow you to use the standard TAGGON menu placement controls of before, after, or as a submenu to the area you have selected.
