Working with Fonts

Fonts in TAGGON can be controlled either through applying a Style to a selected piece of text, or by using the toolbar functions located to the right of the Style Dropdown.  TAGGON allows for the changing of your Font Family, Size, Weight/Emphasis, Background Color, and Font Color of any textual selection.

Font Family
The Font Family dropdown box provides a list of pre-defined Font selections that are most common for online delivery.  These Fonts are selected in hierarchial order starting with the font on the left and progressing to the right.  This means if you select:

Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif

As the font you wish to use for a selection.  Your visitors will see Arial as the font for the applied text, unless they do not have Arial installed on their system.  Should this be the case they will see the text with Helvetica font.  Failing this they will see it in sans-serif font.

You will also find in the Font Family dropdown box single font names.  Selecting this font name forces your users to use that font.  If the user does not have the selected font the text will appear to them in their default system font.

Font Size
The font size dropdown formats the font size of a marked text area in much the same manner as the Font Family dropdown.  Keep in mind when selecting font sizes that web browsers have their own interpretation of font sizes.  Selecting a font size is always a best guess, your end users may not be running the same system as you, or they may have set up their browsers to ignore your size settings for usability reasons such as impaired vision.  It is best whenever possible to select font sizes that leave a reasonable amount of room for resizing in case this occurs.

For example it would not be a good idea to select a very small font size with a very small font even though it may look great on your computer.  When someone visits your website if their browser renders that font to a smaller size by default it may become so small that they can't read anything on your site.

Weight / Emphasis

The weight or emphasis of your text refers to standard methods of providing emphasis in a document, much as you would find in your word processor.  For example, bold, italic, and underline are all forms of weight / emphasis.  To apply weight or emphasis to a text selection.

Select the text you would like to apply the effect to and then do one of the following:

  1. From the TAGGON Menu select the Format menu then the formatting option (for example the Bold option).
  2. Use the toolbar and click on the icon that corresponds to the effect you wish to apply (for example the Italic icon).
  3. Finally you may use the hotkeys for each effect that would normally apply these effects in most word processors.
    CTRL - B
        Bold
    CTRL - I      Italic
    CTRL - U    Underline

Background Color
The background color popup formats the area behind the marked text with the chosen color.  For example this text is marked with a blue background color.

Font Color
The font color popup formats the marked text with the chosen color.  For example this text is marked with a blue color.
